Moving from one zone to another can be a trying experience

Winds of City for Dhooming thrice      Sept 6,  2012            Thu 6:35 PM time zone

Renate … a very happy birthday to you, wishing you happiness and love always !!

Moving from one zone to another can be a trying experience, especially when it comes to addressing and dating the Blog and the tweets. So if there are some errors in that process, do excuse. Importantly though I hope that the wish for Renate is correct. If not then do shift that greeting to the next day the 7th. Sad that there is uncertainty, but as you move east wards you gain time and date … not the most wishful where there is calibration. So I guess the best to do is stick to the place time and date at destination. Yes that seems to be an answer to the issue …

So after the Blog got destroyed I had some strong words with various individuals in the team and they have reassured me that they shall take all required steps to make sure it does not happen again - a sentiment I do wish reflects in the attitude of some of our most loving Ef and TwFmXt ! I do know and realize that this has been disturbing for many sincere guests on our lovely home, and I do know that most are needing to question and repair the faults … but what we must all know is that the more we talk about it, the more the destroyer feels a sense of victory. May all be assured I am aware of who it is, and they are, like all who wish to destroy, seek personal attention, which when it reaches a stage of abuse and compulsory demand of a more personal nature, turns obnoxious. May they also be aware that their acts are being followed and recorded by policing authorities. And it is not just the formal platform, but all that which is connected with me. It is of a person that has lost mind, and the only cure for it is to ignore. Do not be intimidated by calls and messages of obstructive nature. Merely get them blocked. As have I. Report foul play to policing authorities and chill. Get back here, and feel the warmth of our world. It really is so therapeutic, do you not think. So do not listen, for if you listen you will hear, and hearing has its own negative symtoms.

Ok … too much said on this. There are greater more pleasant issues to be seen and heard  and loved and enjoyed. Like the book release at Sotheby's last night for Abu Sandeep, an evening of crowded celebrities and hoi poloi … hoi poloi, not 'the' hoi poloi, as someone corrected me. Sotheby's they said had not seen such a large turn out ever. The Indian community any where in the world can make even the most insignificant events look important by their presence !

Dame Judi Dench, was a delight to have been introduced to. A soft spoken keen listener, and a complete sport when the lady Mc of the evening mispronounced her name as 'Dame Bench' ! The auction went well, and to great admirers of the produce up for sale - a large black and white photograph of mine, self autographed books, and my shervani that I wore. The shervani went for the most, after I cautioned all that it was the clothing that up for auction not the one that was wearing it ! Dinner followed after at the Dorchester, and seeking early exit I was back home in a bit.

Amidst the large and congested audience one felt like Hamlet and the way his soliloquy was put to frame on the famous speech 'to be or not to be', for the Russian version of the film. The Prince moved within the crowded courtesans of the Palace, with the soliloquy playing aloud drowning out the external sounds. This … much different from the formal positioning of the Prince by the riverside, alone with the Palace in the background.

It is strange but at times the greatest thoughts come either when you are having a bath, or when in the company surrounded by people, and the cacophony of human utterances dull your nerves. Strangely too they disappear when the bath is over or when the crowds have left. Waterproof mobiles and self recording devices that could be discreetly placed on the body would enable us to be richer in keeping our thoughts than allowing them to be destroyed before.

It is surprising too when some of the biggest minds and the ultra successful in business or otherwise, speak not of lofty ideals or the goings on of the business and their social norms, but sweetly inquire details of Aaradhya, the little one !! Makes an evening for a grandfather so exciting suddenly when confronted with such queries.

The money for the auction goes for a charity called 'Break through' which protects the girl child. Protects them against violence and atrocities committed against them, a factor which has gained great significance lately among the learned, and those unaware of such deeds .. It interests me greatly, not just because I am Ambassador for UN for the girl child, but because I have genuine belief in it. In many of our campaigns for KBC, this is what has been highlighted and this is what encourages us to be able to spread awareness to the rest of the world !!

A satisfying day … a day of travel and discovery …

With love,

Amitabh Bachchan

New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- It was what you would expect the opening of Indian television's most enduring property to be like: a stirring, fast-paced, no-fuss episode, hosted by Amitabh Bachchan in his by now iconic turn as quizmaster. Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), based on a hit British TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? that created television history when it was launched in July 2000, began its sixth season on Sony with a cheerful young Sikh contestant from Punjab, Surtej Singh, who won more than six lakh rupees.

He was followed by Manish Soni from Rajasthan who said that he gave up working as a jewellery craftsman to study further, underscoring the show's new tagline Sirf Gyaan Hi Aapko Aapka Haq Dilata Hai, never mind class, religion, gender or caste.

This is a direct step up from Season Five's Koi Insaan Chhota Nahin Hota tagline. That season's success was mostly attributed to its 'Slumdog Millionaire' effect -the show's ability to transform the lives of ordinary Indians, best symbolized by the five crore winner, Sushil Kumar, a poor computer operator from Motihari.

Season Six's first episode had all the KBC hallmarks - Bachchan's warm banter with the contestants, the slow coiling of tension as the game moves into higher prize money zones - the maximum being Rs. 5 crore - but most of all, the emotional connect with contestants from all over India, through their personal videos, shot in their hometowns, and through Bachchan's gentle probing. Perhaps that's why the episode featured previous winners too, including Sushil Kumar, even as Bachchan pointed out how their lives had changed after KBC and how they had become overnight celebrities.

Emotion, the aam aadmi, life-transforming prize money, Bachchan's star power - can this cocktail fail to give high TRPs?

Heart shaped hand made crunchy chocolate chipped cookies

Curtains over Courtyard            Sept 5/6,  2012               Wed/Thu  12: 05 AM

Heart shaped hand made crunchy chocolate chipped cookies, a warm shawl covering from the gentle cold breeze through the windows and a vivid experience of the evening at Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla's book launch at prestigious Sotheby's here in London …

A day filled with explanation and concern for those that become our extended family - not just one but several … complaints of abuse and threats to those who show sincerity to our platform … of an attempt to dissuade them from joining … of those that play two faced acts .. pleasant to one, when unpleasant to others … of manipulations and intrigue .. of just so many aspects that this platform has never encouraged … of bickering within this pure environ among each other …

Was this why we created an envious family ? Is it mere tomfoolery or designs of a more dubious nature ? Do those that attempt disruption, those that play and excel at back stabbing, aware that they have been traced and that they are known, by all the right authorities, me inclusive … !!

I have said it before and say again. You don't like being here, fine. You don't like others being here and attempt to stop them to leave, not fine. In fact its downright criminal !! Earlier I had said I would stop this Blog. Now, strengthened by the affection of many, I have changed the color of my words. You do not like … thank you ! get off the boat and make sure you know how to swim to the shore. I am not going to stop my engines for 'man over board' cries !! The sanctity of those that have built this unique space, shall never be ignored by me.

So think hard before you make your next faux pas ..

AND THE BLOG POST HAS DISAPPEARED AGAIN … !!! AND I SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO RECOLLECT AND WRITE IT AGAIN ..

GOOD NIGHT .. WITH ANGER AND DISGUST WRITTEN ALL OVER MY FACE ..

Amitabh Bachchan Jaya are greedy hints Amar Singh

Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya are greedy, hints Amar Singh

New Delhi, Sep 6: Taking a dig at Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan, former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh hinted that the Bachchans are "greedy".

Amar Singh, who was once very close to the Bachchans, spitted venom against them when he went to attend a special function on Teachers' Day on Wednesday, Sept 5.

The former SP leader claimed that many people including "stars" will commit suicide if he writes his autobiography. During an interview with a daily, Singh was quoted as saying, "If I tell the truth, some people and stars would have to commit suicide. So, its better I hold back my words."

While discussing about his relation with the Big B, Singh said, "When I was jailed, he did not even bother calling me up. My bail was set at Rs 2.5 crore, and he could have helped. But he did not speak to me even once."

"He once told a TV Channel that had I not helped him, he would have become bankrupt. But he doesn't have the courage to say this to me," said Amar Singh and also added, "I helped him. But life has taught me a lesson: help the needy, not the greedy."
While commenting on Jaya Bachchan, Amar Singh said, "She was a big star when Amitabh married her. Now, the entire world knows Amitabh. Even Aishwarya is more famous than her. But she has not been able to come to terms with her diminished status. That's why she wants to remain a Rajya Sabha member. She thinks it gives her an identity."

Amar Singh did not even spare Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Reliance's Anil Ambani. Commenting on Mulayam Singh, Amar Singh said, "He ditched me when I became unwell. When I went to Singapore for treatment, conspiracies were hatched. Others replaced me."

"He would come to my house every week to play with my daughters. He would call them princess. But when I was jailed he did not call. But his brother Mukesh, who I had fought with, had the decency to call me," said the former SP leader venting his anger against Anil Ambani.

Finally, Amar Singh concluded his statement with a famous Bollywood dialogue, "I will be back. Picture abhi baaki hai...(lots of facts are yet to be revealed)."

This was not the first time that Amar Singh slammed the Bachchans and others in public. Earlier he had criticised Amitabh and his family members of being double faced. [Read: Friends turn foes: Amar Singh exposes Bachchans?]

Amar Singh had blamed Jaya Bachchan that he (Singh) taught her the "rules of politics" initially but Jaya Bachachan allegedly betrayed him (Singh) when he was in need.

Amitabh Bachchan speaks at the Parikrama 'Jeanaration' charity event in Mumbai on September 1

Divya Nair

At a recent charity event in Mumbai, the Bollywood legend addressed the issues of gender discrimination and the denial of a basic right to education. He also emphasised the importance of knowledge and its power to liberate one's future.

This was definitely not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan volunteered for a worthy cause.

Be it his action-intensive polio eradication drive or the Save the Girl Child campaign, Bachchan Senior has always made time for philanthropy and used his celebrity to spread the word.

At a Parikrama foundation charity event held on September 1, Saturday, in Mumbai, he kickstarted 'Jeanaration', a unique campaign which will feature 24 other Indian celebrities (actors Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Mammootty and Surya, to name a few) who will auction their denims online on eBay and raise funds to power the higher education needs of underpriveleged children (Parikrama is a not-for-profit school in Bangalore).

And of course, he was the first to sign a pair of his jeans and donate them.

The actor, who is known to be ever so punctual, turned up half an hour late and not only made a public apology, but remarked that if there was one attribute that anyone should borrow from him, it should be his punctuality and value for another's time.

Mr Bachchan then went on to address the students and media present, making a special appeal to young Indians and women in particular to raise funds so as to empower and educate youngsters.

He revisited memories from his popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati, elaborating on how ordinary people like Sushil Kumar (winner of the five crore jackpot in Season 5) had inspired many others and turned celebrities overnight due to sheer courage and belief in their dreams.

He reiterated 'Koi bhi insaan chhota nahi hota' ('no man is small/insignificant'), the show's catchphrase from last season. Mr Bachchan also emphasised that 'Keval gyaan hi aapko haq dilata hai' ('knowledge alone can give you your rights') -- the theme for the latest season of KBC -- citing the struggles of several female participants on the show, who were denied the right to education by their parents.

In the following pages, we bring you excerpts from the short but inspiring speech the icon gave to those assembled at the event.

Amitabh Bachchan gets ready to host the new season of KBC

Amitabh Bachchan gets ready to host the new season of KBC

Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan believes knowledge is the key to driving social change, and is trying to spread that message among his fans through the sixth season of hit reality TV game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati?' ('Who wants to be a millionaire?')

In the last season, the KBC campaign centred on the maxim "Koi insaan chhota nahin hota" ("No man is small") and brought people from small towns across India to give them a chance to make it big.

This year, Bachchan takes the philosophy forward with "Gyaan hi aapko aapka haq dilaati hai" ("Only knowledge gets you what you deserve").

Speaking to Times of India, the big screen hero said meeting contestants like Sushil Kumar, and seeing him go from a computer operator earning Rs6,000 (Dhs500) per month to becoming a millionaire, is an experience beyond all.

"KBC has been a moving experience for me. It has been heart-wrenching to hear stories of some of the contestants and you discover that these are our countrymen – and then people want to step in and do something for them. That, for me, is a satisfying experience," said Bachchan.

"This is now beyond just a show. It has become a medium where many of such people's facts and circumstances reach not just to you and me but, through the medium of television, to the entire country.

"KBC is now not just a game, but it is for those whose lives we can bring a change in."

The show's sixth season begins on Sony Channel on September 7 from Friday to Sunday.
