Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan recently flew down south to shoot for a brand endorsement with some of South Indian cinema’s biggest names. The ‘Shamitabh’ actor donned a traditional ivory and gold mundu and spent the day with Prabhu, Vikram, Shiva, Nagarjuna and Manju Warrior.

Amitabh Bachchan posted on his Facebook page, “And today with the greats of Southern India .. all of them sons of The Greats in the early years of my career. What a privilege for me to be in the same frame .. A legacy of the past in my present today .. honoured and humbled by the respect they all give me ..” (sic)

 
  The actor even posted on Twitter, “With the greats of the Southern film Industry.. privileged honoured. Their Father’s Icons of my early years.” (sic)

Amitabh, who posts anecdotes frequently on his personal blog, shared his experience working with some of the biggest names in the Southern film industry. He said, “There is a certain respect and cultural heritage in them all. The Industry itself has been one that has functioned with utmost professionalism and discipline. Their modes of management and the contents of their creativity have always been ahead of the Industry in Mumbai.

Though now the gap is slowly getting closed and the content and ethics of the two Industries has been on par almost.”

"Regional cinema has elevated the local talents to immense heights and needs to be lauded for its enterprising efforts. Marathi cinema for example is coming out with some of the most prolific content in recent times. The artistry of their work, their story telling, their performances have all been exemplary," he added.

On the movie front, Amitabh has two releases lined up this year, Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’ and Bejoy Nambiar’s ‘Wazir’.

 Amitabh Bachchan reveals release date of ‘Piku’

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has us eagerly awaiting his next appearance onscreen, has finally revealed the release date of comedy-drama ‘Piku’.

Big B took to Twitter to share the date, which is May 8, 2015.


T 1788 - 'PIKU ' the film .. Deepika, Irrfan, AB with Shoojit Sarkar director ... confirmed release May 8 by Adi Chopra YRF and Sony ..

Set in Kolkata, the Shoojit Sircar-directed film also stars Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone.
During the schedule of the film, a number of pictures from the sets made their way to the internet, including those of Amitabh Bachchan riding around in the City of Joy on a cycle.

Amitabh Bachchan, who shot for many films in Kolkata during his younger days, was happy to be back in the city. “In ‘PIKU land’ … !! Too many memories flashing by as the drive from the airport ends .. but so much more to come in the days ahead. Kolkata shall always hold a special place and space within…a ‘city of joy’ that energises you with intellect and passion !!,” posted Big B at the time.

The film is said to delve into the relationship between a father and daughter.

Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra says it would be wonderful to manage a casting coup of Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan in one frame, especially in an English film for the global audience.

The filmmaker, along with the two actors, was present at the trailer launch of his debut Hollywood project "Broken Horses" here on Tuesday.
  
 
"It will be wonderful to work with Mr. Bachchan and Aamir Khan in an English language film for the world audience. Let's aim for that," Chopra said.

So far, Big B and Aamir have not worked together on screen. However, for Aamir's film "Lagaan", Big B played a narrator.
